LOVE OUT LOUD WINNING ENTRY:
OMAR DEXTER S. LIRA

UNTITLED

I love her.

Undeserving of my thoughts,
she has them anyway,
wrapped about her person
like a courtesan’s cloak.

And true to form, she drops my thoughts
as casually as she bares her shoulders.
Amid the stares of her perpetual crowd,
she breaks my ogling heart.

But with a sigh, on a sleepless night,
I will pay the pimp and strip away
the silks of her stubborn indifference,
and set desire to her shoulders with my teeth.

I will work my heavy hands,
as potters shape their finest china clay,
set a crown of roses with my thumbs
upon her perfect flesh.

Yesterday’s dumbstruck tongue
will find a voice within her mouth,
sing her praises in her ear, write
the sweetest verse upon her skin.

I will feel my name on the tip of her tongue
and see it in her scented breath, hear it
in the touching of our skins.

Poesy.

And when I greet the dawn in my guilty bed,
I will remember the eve that she will not,
And tearfully remind her at the moon’s next rising.
